Wrangler / Ranch Staff

The Gunstock Ranch often has openings for the Wrangler / Ranch Staff at our Laie located Ranch. A Wrangler / Ranch Staff is expected to participate in a range of activities at the Ranch including, but not limited to perform as guide on various types of ranch trail rides, participate as staff for ranch parties, events and field trips, feed and groom trail horses, and assist ranch marketing efforts that will enhance the trails program.

A Wrangler / Ranch Staff should have excellent horsemanship skills and be an experienced rider. Just as importantly they need to be friendly and energetic, able to direct a large group as well as have excellent time management skills. They should enjoy meeting new people and conversing with people from diverse backgrounds. They will also need to be comfortable leading both children and adults in various activities. In general, a wrangler needs to be able to prepare for and execute a complete trail, party or learning experience for Gunstock customers with minimal supervision. Wranglers able to speak a foreign language is considered a plus. We are always looking for Japanese speaking wranglers.

Field Crew

Gunstock Ranch has openings for a field crew on our beautiful 700+ acre ranch. The field crew’s main responsibilities will be land clearing, building and repairing fences and gates and planting of trees or other foliage. They also may be called upon to monitor and repair basic water systems, road maintenance, and minor building and construction projects as experience permits. Any additional experience in any of the areas listed is a plus.

A member of our field crew can work independently and in groups. They need to be self-motivated and have the ability to work with minimal supervision. They will be working on physically vigorous projects. The position is open for 20-40 hours per week and may require Saturdays.

Ranch Hand

Gunstock Ranch often has an opening for a Ranch hand on our beautiful 600+ acre ranch. The ranch hand is expected to participate in a range of activities at the Ranch including, but not limited to mending and building fences and gates, monitoring and basic repair of water systems, road repair and maintenance, minor building, and construction projects as experience permits and ranch event preparation and staffing. Experience with horses is a plus. The individual will also be cross-trained as event staff and should be comfortable hosting and working at Ranch events including parties, fun runs, family events and field trips.

A Gunstock ranch hand should be willing and able to work independently and work on large tasks with minimal supervision. They need to be prepared to work on physically vigorous projects. The position is for approximately 19 hours per week. Individuals must be available on Saturdays.

Gunstock Aquatics Swim Instructor

A Gunstock Swim Instructor is responsible for student safety, planning and carrying out lessons appropriate to the class assigned, conducting swimming pre-assessments and for set up and cleanup of pool equipment and facility. In addition, Aquatics Instructors need to be able to teach and handle private, semi-private and class settings as well as lifeguard parties and events.

Major Responsibilities:

Familiar with American Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim levels, and other Red Cross water safety courses, and know how to use course materials effectively.

  • Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience, and ability of participants so they can meet course objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with participants to ensure they are aware of their progress.
  • Complete records and reports in a timely manner and return them to the director.
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards and that materials and equipment are safe.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans.
  • Enforce all aquatics facility policies, rules and regulations 80% Instruct Students in Swim and Safety
  • Be able to teach a wide range of students both swimming basics and advance 10% Pool Cleaning and Maintenance
  • General tidiness, pool prep 10% Lifeguard Gunstock Parties and Pool Events
  • Those with lifeguard certification will be expected to take shifts as a lifeguard during Pool events

Experience and Certifications:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Includes CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer
  • Swim Teaching Background: WSI or comparable experiences

Requirements and Skill Sets:

As a swimming instructor, you will be expected to have:

  • A thorough knowledge of, and the ability to apply swimming and water safety
  • A thorough knowledge of, and ability to apply methods of teaching swimming and water safety skills
  • An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
  • Leadership and public relations skills
  • Excellent communication skills
    Sound decision-making skills

Training and Evaluation:

Required to attend training within two weeks of hire date. In addition, the employee is expected to meet with the supervisor after the one-month probationary period and for a performance review.


The individual in this position is expected to be available in the minimum 2 days a week of the following:

  • M/W 3-5pm firm; possible 2:30-6
  • T/Th 3-5pm firm; possible 2:30-6
  • T/Th 9-11 am firm: possible 8:30-11:30
  • Lifeguards may also be assigned up to two Saturdays a month from 8-1 or 1-6 and must have some Saturdays available to work.
