Greg Smith, Owner of Gunstock Ranch

Greg Smith, OwnerGreg Smith is the owner of Gunstock Ranch.  He was born and raised in Kailua, HI.  His father, Max Smith, started Gunstock Ranch in 1973.  Greg grew up helping run the ranch with his father.  Along with working the ranch, Greg also works full time for the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  His time free time is taken up with helping his 5 kids rodeo and 4-H.

Kyndra Smith, Owner of Gunstock Aquatics

Owner and President of Gunstock AquaticsGunstock Aquatics was founded in 2007 after Kyndra saw how a year round swimming program would benefit the children in her community. Kyndra has been teaching aquatics at BYUH since 1995. She has specialized in classes such as Beginning Swimming and Intermediate Swimming for adults. She keeps current with the top techniques and skills and is enthusiastic to share them with her students.  Kyndra also brings her experience working as Swimming Director for the BYUH Learn to Swim Program from 1994- 2007. She loves being able to pass on her love of swimming and the water as well as serve the needs for the community children from Kaaawa to Haleiwa.  Kyndra uses her training and certifications with the American Red Cross to train the staff on Gunstock Ranch and Aquatics and to offer training courses for the community in CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding, and Emergency Medical Response.

Aquatics DirectorMeg Erdenebat – Gunstock Aquatics Director, Team Building Coordinator

Meg became the Aquatics Director for Gunstock Aquatics in 2010. She graduated from BYU Hawaii in Exercise and Sports Science. She received a  Masters Degree in Recreation Administration from George Williams College of Aurora University. Meg started teaching swimming lesson in high school and has continued to have a love for the water and those she works with.  Her goal is to provide the best programs she can to serve the community.

Meg carries certification and training in: American Red Cross WSI and LGI, Solo Wilderness First Aid, Emergency Medical Response.

Gunstock Trails ManagerRaia Olsen  – Trails Manager, Horse Riding Lesson Instructor

Raia Olsen was born and raised in Hawaii and has been involved with horses for many years.  She competed in the Hawaii High School Rodeo Association and various other equine related activities.  She graduated from BYUH in then attended Northwest College in Powell, WY and earned degrees in both Equine Riding and Training and Equine Business Management.  She was a part of the Collegiate Equine Judging Team that competed in contests at shows like the National Reining Horse Association Futurity and the American Quarter Horse Association World Show.  She also completed an internship at a performance horse barn, Double Stitched Performance Horses where they specialize in Trail and Western Pleasure horses.She has knowledge and experience in both Western and English disciplines to help each individual work towards their goals and to progress at a pace that is appropriate to their skills.  Private, semi-private and group lessons are offered for beginning to advanced riders ages 5 and up.  She offers lessons in Trail, Showmanship, Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, and Hunt Seat Equitation.

Gunstock Ranch ManagerDan Olsen – Ranch Manager, Farrier, Horse Trainer

Daniel Olsen grew up on a cattle ranch in Thermopolis, WY.  He has been involved with horses for many years.  He attended Northwest College where he earned degrees in Farm & Ranch Management, Agroecology and Farrier Business Management.  Dan offers Farrier services through his own business “Shod Right Farrier Service”.  Dan specializes in Therapeutic Shoeing, Corrective Shoeing, Hot Shoeing. Dan works as a horse trainer. He specializes in starting colts and working with problem horses.

Educational and Parties CoordinatorLilia Tollefsen – Education, Field Trip, and Party Specialist

Lilia Tollefsen joined our staff in 2011 after taking a break from 15 year of teaching to focus on being a mom. She has worked teaching all grade levels in Elementary as well as a Curriculum Coordinator and Technology Specialist. Her love of teaching, working with others and computer experience has made this the perfect job for her. Her goal is to help each person have an unforgettable experience at Gunstock.

Wranglers

Each wrangler that joins our staff must have years of horse experience behind them before joining our team. Once with us each member goes through 20 hours of on site training. All wranglers are certified in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and  First Aid.

Swim Instructors

Instructors that work for Gunstock Aquatics are required to have a base WSI certification or equivalent swimming instructor training.  All instructors are orientated to current American Red Cross teaching standards and follow that set format. Instructors carry American Red Cross Lifeguard certification which includes CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and First Aid along with their swimming instructor training.

Lifeguards

All instructors are required to have American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. This certification includes lifesaving, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
